Pig Christmas celebration
Long before Shepherd's Green existed there were pigs and Pig Christmas at Dragonwood Farm
A good day, in fact the best day of their year, is December 26, designated Pig Christmas ! These little ones have more favorite foods in front of them than they can eat. They start out grabbing it in competitive style, then realize the piles aren't going down very fast, so they get selective, maybe a cookie, no, maybe a banana, no I think pasta.... yes, pasta will be good .. with whipped cream!!!!
As they get full they walk by and look but decide to save some for later. If you look out at dawn the day after Pig Christmas, you will see some opportunistic little pigs getting a "leftovers" breakfast, the appetizer before their regular breakfast! Others take something to bed with them to save the walk..
The Christmas Fundraiser begins December 1st....don't be late for pigmas dinner!

Yay !! It's Pig Christmas 2014 ! THank You all for making it a wonderful day
The absolute Very Best day of the year !! Jump right in and make some pig's special day !
Choose one or a dozen pigs; pick them yourself or tell me to pick from seniors, farm pigs, handicapped or juvenile delinquents! For some pigs, like newly rescued Joey, scheduled to be slaughtered a month ago at his home in Kentucky, fate had a different plan. He won't know what kind of good fortune saved him but he will be thrilled with the menu.
Each meal is $5 and a christmas token will go into their block of the list below (see Fiona's example.. she has 3 tokens already)

Special Request Fund for Nellie, a senior girl at one of our foster locations in Kentucky. Nellie has had many health problems and her caregiver never was able to get her spayed. Now she has signs of a tumor and must go to UT for surgery for that and additional problems. Its a long trip for Darla, her owner, to get her there and will be very hard to leave her and go home and wait to know if she is OK. Estimates are wide ($1600-$4000)depending on how complex the surgeries may be but a fund of $1500 will be a good start. Nellie is in need. That's all we need to start the ball rolling! We will help her from our Helping Hoof Fund. If you will add some Holiday ornaments they will go to help her get safely spayed and back home.
Nellies Fund is compleley funded as of Dec 18th. With a total of $2600 to pay on her bill when she has the surgery. Thanks to everyone who shared the spitit of love with Nellie.. and a special hug to Gail who pushed the fund over the top.. You are all wonderful!!

More Pigs, yay!!!
Every year we have a backup sanctuary who can use a holiday boost. This year that fund will go to Cotton Branch, a multi Species sanctuary In South Carolina who undertook to assist the local Humane Society in a sanctuary turned abuse case and wound up with dozens of sick, unspayed, expensive new residents!!
Any donations made for their animals will be much appreciated by those pigs and their friends. Their list of names will be published below this week.
When selecting you may choose by name or just put in SC and I will choose them !

Thank you for giving so much to so many..
